About the program
Research Experience for Teachers at Columbia University
The CS3 RET program brings New York City high school STEM teachers to Columbia University for four weeks of research and curriculum development.
Program overview
The Center for Smart Streetscapes (CS3) is a National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center led by Columbia University. RET participants work with CS3 faculty, staff, and graduate researchers.
The program covers machine learning, computer vision, and urban sensing. Teachers attend lectures, labs, workshops, and research sessions.
Each teacher prepares a classroom module and a final project using New York City data.
The 2026 program runs July 13 through August 6, 2026, at Morningside Heights Campus, Mudd Building, Room 706.
What participants do
Work on research projects
Use CS3 datasets, models, and tools with Columbia researchers.
Prepare classroom materials
Write lesson plans and modules for the next school year.
Present a final project
Present a lesson plan and project to the cohort and program staff.
